1902
California Historical Landmarks League founded in San Francisco by Senator Joseph R. Knowland with the support of William Randolph Hearst. The organization was responsible for restoring many of the missions in Northern California.

1926
William Randolph Hearst purchased Mission San Francisco Solano from private owners and deeded it to the State of California.

May 1998
California Missions Foundation founded by Richard M. Ameil, sixth generation Californian and descendant of original Spanish settlers who came to California in 1774. The foundation will conduct the first major campaign in many decades on behalf of all the Alta California missions.

June 1999
Stephen T. Hearst, great grandson of William Randolph Hearst agreed to chair California Missions Foundation.

October 1, 1999
California Missions Foundation announced MISSIONS 2000 CAMPAIGN, a 50-million dollar statewide campaign to support ongoing preservation of the California missions, at a gala dinner at Mission San Diego de Alcalá.
