Mission Santa Inés, Virgen y Mártir founded by Fray Esteban Tápis.

December 14, 1817
Mission San Rafael Arcángel founded by Fray Vicente de Sarría.

July 4, 1823
Mission San Francisco Solano, the last Alta California mission, founded by Fray José de Altimíra.

1882
Father Angelo Casanova, resident priest, began drive to restore buildings at Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Río Carmelo.

1888
Miss Tessa L. Kelso, librarian of Los Angeles City Library, founded the Association for the Preservation of the Missions-the first serious effort toward preserving the Alta California missions.

1896
Newspaperman Charles Fletcher Lummis, editor of The Land of Sunshine (later called Out West) founded the Landmarks Club which led a campaign for the restoration of many of the missions in Southern California.
